The byCOASTAL Brand
What is byCOASTAL?
byCOASTAL is a global coastal lifestyle brand that brings architecture, furniture, marine, hospitality and experiences together under one internationally recognised identity.
The brand is built around five connected categories — Build, Live, Relax, Explore and Entertain — and grows internationally through licensed partners who own and operate their businesses locally while sharing one global brand vision.
What does “A Life by the Sea” mean?
It is the byCOASTAL brand promise. It expresses the founding belief that life is at its best where land and ocean meet.
Every design, product, place and partnership carrying the byCOASTAL name is measured against that idea — coastal living treated as a way of life rather than a category of property.
Who founded byCOASTAL?
byCOASTAL was founded by Roger Croome. What began as a vision to create beautifully designed coastal homes has grown into a global lifestyle brand spanning architecture, craftsmanship, marine living, furniture, hospitality and coastal experiences.
Where is byCOASTAL based?
byCOASTAL is based on Lombok Island, Indonesia, and operates as an international brand platform.
Licensed partners run byCOASTAL businesses in their own markets, so the brand is present wherever a partner has been appointed rather than in a single head-office location.
Is byCOASTAL a franchise?
No — byCOASTAL operates a brand licensing model, not a conventional franchise.
Partners own and run their own local companies under an agreed licence. byCOASTAL provides the brand, intellectual property, standards and direction; the partner brings market knowledge, relationships and execution.
What makes the byCOASTAL model different?
Three things set the model apart:
- One brand, multiple revenue channels — a partner can develop several complementary businesses instead of relying on a single product.
- Local execution, global identity — you know your market; byCOASTAL supplies brand direction, standards and intellectual property.
- Scalable — a territory can begin with one focused project or category and expand as performance is demonstrated.

The byCOASTAL Collection
What are the five byCOASTAL categories?
The Collection has five complementary lifestyle categories, all built on one coastal vision:
What does byCOASTAL Build cover?
BUILD covers coastal homes, villas, development concepts, construction systems, interiors and selected building products.
In practice that includes owner-builder homes, luxury villas, beach houses, building systems, architectural support and sustainable solutions designed for lifestyle, durability and beauty.
What does byCOASTAL Live cover?
LIVE covers furniture and interiors inspired by relaxed coastal living — furniture collections, kitchens, bedrooms, outdoor living, décor and accessories, and custom solutions.
The pieces are designed to serve both private residences and licensed hospitality projects, which lets a partner supply their own developments as well as the retail market.
What does byCOASTAL Relax cover?
RELAX covers hospitality, resorts, wellness and outdoor living: beach clubs, resorts and retreats, villa developments, lifestyle communities, property management and hospitality services.
From boutique villas to luxury resorts, the category is about creating places that inspire relaxation, connection and unforgettable experiences.
What does byCOASTAL Explore cover?
EXPLORE covers the marine side of coastal life — sailing catamarans, marine products and care, water sports, coastal adventures, charters and ocean experiences.
It is the category that connects byCOASTAL to travel, destinations and life on the water rather than beside it.
What does byCOASTAL Entertain cover?
ENTERTAIN covers restaurants and cafés, bars and lounges, beachfront dining, hospitality concepts, event venues, catering and yacht-club style social environments.
These are hospitality concepts that combine exceptional food, considered design and stunning coastal locations.
Do I have to license all five categories?
No. A territory can begin with a single focused category or project and expand into further categories as capability, demand and commercial performance are demonstrated.
Most partners start where their existing experience is strongest — a builder in BUILD, a hospitality group in RELAX or ENTERTAIN — and grow from there.
03
Licensing & Partnership
What exactly is a byCOASTAL licence?
A byCOASTAL licence is a long-term commercial relationship — not simply permission to place a logo on a product.
It grants defined rights to develop byCOASTAL businesses within an agreed territory, category or project, and sets out brand standards, obligations, reporting and the support you receive in return.
What types of licence are available?
Four structures are possible, and they can be combined:
- Territory / Regional Licence — rights to develop byCOASTAL within an agreed geographic market, subject to defined performance and brand requirements.
- Project / Development Licence — rights tied to a specific resort, villa, real-estate, marine or lifestyle development.
- Product / Category Licence — rights to develop, manufacture, distribute or commercialise an agreed product or category.
- Strategic Master Partnership — a broader relationship combining territory development with multiple approved categories and projects.
Who is byCOASTAL looking to partner with?
byCOASTAL partners with entrepreneurs who have vision and drive, companies with relevant industry experience, investors seeking long-term opportunities, developers and builders, hospitality and lifestyle operators, retailers and distributors, designers and architects — and anyone genuinely passionate about coastal living.
What matters most is commercial capability, local relationships and a shared commitment to quality and sustainability.
Do I need previous experience in property or hospitality?
Relevant experience is valuable, but it is not the only path. byCOASTAL assesses commercial capability, market knowledge, local relationships, resources and the ability to execute.
Strong partners have come from development, hospitality, retail, design and investment backgrounds. Where a gap exists, the licence scope can be shaped around what you do best.
Is the territory exclusive?
Exclusivity is available and is defined in each licence agreement. Protected territories secure your market potential and brand exclusivity.
The precise scope — geography, categories and duration — is agreed case by case alongside the performance commitments that keep the exclusivity in place.
Can one partner hold more than one territory?
Yes. Performance is reviewed periodically, with opportunities to expand territory, categories, projects or product lines where this is commercially justified.
Expansion is earned through demonstrated results rather than granted upfront — which protects both the partner and the brand.
How long does a byCOASTAL licence last?
The term is set in the licence agreement and is designed to support a long-term relationship rather than a short-term arrangement.
Renewal and expansion options are linked to performance and continued compliance with brand standards.
04
Investment & Commercial Terms
How much does a byCOASTAL licence cost?
There is no single global price. Fees, royalties, minimum commitments and support arrangements are determined case by case according to the rights granted and the commercial opportunity.
A tailored commercial proposal is prepared once the territory, categories and intended scope have been discussed.
How are fees and royalties structured?
Licensing economics typically combine an initial licence fee with ongoing royalties or agreed commercial terms, together with reporting obligations.
The exact structure depends on the licence type, the level of exclusivity, the term and the scope of rights granted — and everything is formalised in the written licence agreement.
What returns can a licensee expect?
byCOASTAL does not guarantee financial returns. Results depend on the market, your execution, your capital and local conditions.
The recommended approach is deliberately conservative: identify the strongest commercial entry point, prove the model through one or more credible opportunities, then scale the relationship from demonstrated results rather than overbuilding the structure upfront.
Is there a minimum investment level?
Minimum commitments are set within each agreement rather than published as a fixed global figure, because a single-category product licence and a full territory master partnership carry very different requirements.
Your investment capability is one of the factors reviewed during due diligence, alongside experience, relationships and market opportunity.
Do I need a physical location to start?
Not necessarily — it depends on the category. A furniture or product licence may need a showroom or distribution capability; a development licence works from a project pipeline.
A market-development role can begin with relationships and opportunity generation before any premises are established at all.
05
Applying & The Process
How do I apply to become a byCOASTAL partner?
The path to partnership has five stages:
- 1Inquiry — tell us about your market and your goals.
- 2Application — complete the application and share your business information.
- 3Review — we review your application and schedule an introductory meeting.
- 4Approval — upon mutual agreement, we formalise the licensing partnership.
- 5Launch — we support you at every step of launching your byCOASTAL business.
How long does the licensing process take?
Timing depends on the territory, the scope of rights and how quickly information is exchanged — it is measured in weeks to months rather than days.
Behind the five public stages sits a formal sequence: expression of interest, definition of territory and scope, due diligence, a tailored commercial proposal, the written licence agreement, then launch and ongoing development.
Is my inquiry treated confidentially?
Yes. Discussions are handled as confidential from the first conversation.
Confidentiality and non-use protection can be put in place where appropriate, before commercially sensitive market, project or financial information is exchanged in either direction.
What information should I prepare before applying?
A short brief covering:
- Your proposed territory and the categories or projects that interest you.
- Your relevant experience and existing business activities.
- Local relationships, market intelligence and any project pipeline.
- Indicative resources or investment capability.
- The role you intend to play — operator, developer, investor or distributor.
Which markets are currently available?
byCOASTAL is inviting a limited number of carefully selected strategic partners across North America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Availability changes as partners are appointed, so the fastest way to check your market is to contact us directly.
06
Support & Brand Standards
What support do byCOASTAL licensees receive?
Every licensed partner receives:
- Exclusive brand rights in the agreed territory
- Comprehensive brand guidelines
- Marketing and promotional support
- Access to proven systems and expertise
- Training and operational support
- Product and design resources
- Ongoing communication and collaboration
Who controls design and brand standards?
byCOASTAL provides the global brand platform, intellectual property, licensing framework and brand direction, and sets the standards that protect them.
Licensed partners apply those standards locally, with approvals required for branded products, projects and marketing materials. The intention is to help you position byCOASTAL appropriately in your market while protecting the global brand.
Is byCOASTAL a registered trademark?
Yes — byCOASTAL® is a registered brand.
The licence agreement formalises the relationship in writing and covers intellectual property, brand standards, confidentiality, use rights, reporting and commercial responsibilities.
Can I apply the byCOASTAL brand to my existing business?
In some cases, yes. Existing developments, showrooms, resorts or marine businesses can be brought under the byCOASTAL brand where they meet brand standards and the arrangement is agreed within the licence.
This is assessed during due diligence, when the business model, counterparties and market opportunity are reviewed together.
How does byCOASTAL approach sustainability?
Sustainability is one of the brand's core values, not a marketing line. byCOASTAL prioritises exceptional design, sustainable materials and timeless style.
Partners are expected to respect the oceans, communities and future generations in the places where they build and operate — the brand only works if the coastlines it depends on stay worth living beside.
